بخش صنعت و زیربخش‌های آن یکی از عمده‌ترین متقاضیان انرژی و مخصوصاً گازطبیعی می‌باشند، از این‌رو در این مطالعه تابع تقاضای گازطبیعی در زیربخش‌ صنایع تولید فلزات اساسی ایران به تفکیک طبقه‌بندی آیسیک دو رقمی با استفاده از مدل سری زمانی ساختاری برای دوره¬ی زمانی 1392-1360 تصریح می‌شود. مدل‌ سری‌ زمانی‌ ساختاری دارای جزء غیرقابل‌ مشاهده‌ی روند است که پس از تبدیل این مدل به¬صورت فضاحالت و با به¬کارگیری الگوریتم فیلتر کالمن از طریق روش ‌حداکثر راستنمایی برآورد می‌شود. همچنین به دلیل اینکه از انتهای سال 1389 قانون هدفمندی یارانه‌ها اجرا شد، لذا این موضوع نیز که نقش بسیار زیادی روی تقاضای انرژی بخش‌های اقتصادی داشته است نیز مورد ارزیابی قرار می‌گیرد. نتایج این مطالعه حاکی ‌از آن ‌است‌ که اولاً ماهیت روند ازنوع روند هموار است و ثانیاً به¬صورت‌ غیرخطی‌ حرکت می‌کند. همچنین با توجه به تابع تقاضای برآورد شده، کشش قیمتی تقاضای گازطبیعی‌ در زیربخش ‌تولید فلزات اساسی در کوتاه‌مدت و بلندمدت به¬ترتیب برابر با 30/0- و 79/0 و کشش تولیدی گازطبیعی در کوتاه‌مدت 17/0 و در بلندمدت 38/0 می‌باشد. همچنین، کشش‌های متقاطع قیمتی نفت‌گاز و برق در کوتاه‌مدت و بلندمدت نشان می‌دهد نفت گاز کالای جانشین و برق کالای مکملی برای گازطبیعی می‌باشند. نتایج حاصل از ارزیابی اثر اجرای قانون هدفمندکردن یارانه‌ها در این صنایع نیز نشان می‌دهد که روابط برآوردی تقاضای گازطبیعی می‌تواند اثر اجرای سیاست هدفمندی یارانه‌ها را توضیح ‌دهد.
