با توجه به وابستگی فزاینده بین کشورها و افزایش تقاضای انرژی، تجارت انرژی طی دهه‌های اخیر افزایش یافته و این در حالی است که بخش زیادی از آن به صورت تجارت درون صنعت (IIT) است. در این راستا کشورها، سعی در بهره‌برداری از تنوع در یک محصول خاص و همچنین انتقال فناوری و دانش فنی تولید ناشی از تجارت درون صنعتدر این بخش را دارند. با توجه به اهمیت نقش IIT در اقتصاد کشورها، در این مطالعه تعیین کننده¬های IIT در بخش انرژی بین ایران و شرکاء برتر تجاری طی دوره‌ی 2016-1997 با استفاده از الگوی جاذبه و روش اقتصادسنجی حداکثر درستنمایی پوآسون‌نما شناسایی شده است. بر اساس نتایج، اثر متغیرهای تولید ناخالص داخلی سرانه ایران و کشورهای طرف تجاری، تنوع محصولات در بخش انرژی در ایران و کشورهای مورد بررسی، دسترسی به آب¬های آزاد در کشورهای طرف تجاری ایران و سرمایه‌گذاری مستقیم خارجی در بخش انرژی در ایران بر IIT مثبت و معنادار است. در مقابل، اثر متغیرهای فاصله‌ی جغرافیایی، هزینه¬های تجارت و عدم توازن تجاری بین ایران و کشورهای طرف تجاری بر IIT منفی و معنادار است.
