مقاله حاضر بر آن است تا به بررسی مقایسه ای فرضیه کوزنتس در کشورهای منتخب در حال توسعه پرداخته و با کاربرد شاخص های توسعه اقتصادی، اجتماعی و انسانی در تفسیر این فرضیه، علاوه بر بررسی فرضیه مذکور، تأثیر شاخص های توسعه بر آلودگی محیط زیست کشورهای مورد بررسی را در دوره زمانی 1990 تا 2014 مورد تحلیل قرار دهد.
نتایج حاصل از تخمین مدل تحقیق که با استفاده از روش داده های تابلویی و برای سه گروه کشورهای درحال توسعه، درحال توسعه نفتی و درحال توسعه غیر نفتی انجام گرفته، نشان دهنده تأیید فرضیه کوزنتس در کشورهای منتخب درحال توسعه و کشورهای نفتی و رد آن در کشورهای غیر نفتی می باشد؛
بعلاوه معنی داری شاخص¬های توسعه مورد استفاده در این گروه (GDP و مصرف انرژی (توسعه اقتصادی)، شهرنشینی (توسعه اجتماعی)، حکومت داری خوب (شاخصهای سیاسی)، امید به زندگی و نرخ باروری (توسعه انسانی)، حاکی از تأثیرگذاری وضعیت توسعه یافتگی بر کیفیت محیط زیست در هر سه گروه مورد بررسی در دوره زمانی مذکور، می باشد.
