از جمله عوامل رشد و توسعه مناطق پیرامون مراکز توسعه‌یافته، وجود اثرات سرریز سرمایه‌گذاری است که این مطالعه با هدف بررسی اثرات سرریز سرمایه‌گذاری صنعتی استان‌های ایران، این اثرات را کمی‌سازی می‌کند. بر این اساس، از اقتصادسنجی فضایی برای تبیین اثرات غیرمستقیم یا سرریز سرمایه‌گذاری صنعتی استفاده می‌کند. نتایج گویای این واقعیت است که استان‌های با شاخص جاذبه اقتصادی بالاتر، که به ترتیب عبارتند از: تهران، اصفهان، خراسان رضوی، خوزستان و فارس به ترتیب با ضریب 0.152، 0.090، 0.085، 0.083 و 0.077 سرریزهای سرمایه‌گذاری صنعتی بیشتری نسبت به سایر استان‌ها دارند. در مقابل، استان‌های با فاصله جغرافیایی بسیار از استان‌های توسعه‌یافته از جمله اردبیل، سیستان و بلوچستان، خراسان شمالی و ایلام به ترتیب با ضرایب 0.029، 0.031، 0.037 و 0.038 بهره‌مندی کمتری از سرریزهای سرمایه‌گذاری صنعتی سایر مناطق دارند. نتایج همچنین نشان می‌دهد که اثرات سرریز سرمایه‌گذاری صنعتی برای استان‌های مختلف، تفاوت قابل توجهی از یکدیگر دارد. بطوریکه برای برخی استان‌ها، اثرات غیرمستقیم بسیار کمتر از اثرات مستقیم بوده است و برای برخی دیگر از استان‌ها، اثرات غیرمستقیم نزدیک به اثرات مستقیم سرمایه‌گذاری صنعتی می‌باشد. دلیل این امر را می‌توان به موقعیت جغرافیایی، سیاست‌ها و مقررات دولتی و مجاورت با استان‌های توسعه‌یافته نسبت داد.
