در این مطالعه به بررسی وجود همگرایی تصادفی و همگرایی بتا در مصرف سرانه انرژی کشورهای عضو اوپک طی دوره زمانی 2011–1971 پرداخته می شود. بدین منظور برای آزمون وجود یا عدم وجود همگرایی تصادفی از آزمون ریشه واحد ارائه شده توسط لی و استرازیسیچ(2003) و همچنین جهت آزمون همگرایی بتا از مدل ارائه شده توسط پرون و یابو(2009) استفاده می شود. نتایج حاصل از روش پرون و یابو نسبت به وجود یا عدم وجود ریشه واحد حساس نبوده و به این دلیل نتایج حاصله قابل استنادتر از نتایج سایر روش ها می باشد. نتایج آزمون ها بطور کلی نشان می دهد که در بین مصرف سرانه انرژی تک تک کشورها، همگرایی تصادفی وجود دارد. بر اساس نتایج روش پرون و یابو، می توان اذعان داشت که همگرایی بتا برای مصرف سرانه ی انرژی کشورهای آنگولا، اکوادور، ایران، نیجریه، قطر و ونزوئلا در رژیم اول (دوره قبل از شکست ساختاری) و برای کشورهای الجزایر، آنگولا، عربستان، اکوادور، امارات، ایران، عراق، لیبی و قطر در رژیم دوم (دوره ی بعد از شکست ساختاری) برقرار است گرچه برای کشورهای نیجریه و ونزوئلا نتایج حاکی از واگرایی مصرف سرانه انرژی می باشد.  تاریخ شکست های ساختاری برآورد شده از این روش ها به شکل خوشه ای در سال های 1977-1974، 1984-1979، 1994-1989 و 1998-1996 متمرکز شده اند که دلیل آن، وقوع شوک های بزرگ انرژی یا اقتصادی در این سال ها می باشد.
